Meal Volunteer
Cooking a meal for these families allows you to interact with families and listen to their stories. Meal volunteers have the ability to know the families and use a meal as an ice breaker. Meal volunteers can volunteer once a year or once a month. This volunteer opportunity is perhaps suited for individuals that cannot commit for long periods of time.
Duties: Meal volunteers are asked to prepare a dinner or breakfast for 15 to 20 people with a vegetarian option. After spending hours upon hours in the hospital with your sick child the last thing anyone wants to do is come home and cook. This is where incredible volunteers like you can make a huge difference.
Special Requirements:
- We ask for no more than six people in your group as the kitchen will be crowed with more than 6 people.
- Dinners are Sunday through Friday only, and are served at 7:00 PM. Groups should plan to arrive by 6:00 PM. Depending on your menu, you may want to arrange with our office for an earlier arrival. (We would greatly appreciate a meal during the week! Most of our weekends are booked).
- Breakfasts are on Saturday mornings only. Breakfast is served at 9:30 AM. The House opens at 9:00 AM, so you may need to prepare food ahead of time. Please plan to arrive promptly at 9:00 AM.
- Ronald McDonald House provides all the kitchen utensils and beverages. You will need to provide the meal ingredients. (We have the basics: salt, flour, oils, etc.) If possible, we prefer that you send us a copy of the menu a few days in advance.
- Meals should serve 15-20, and include a vegetarian component. Your group is encouraged to join the families for the meal. Not all families are at the House for the 7:00 PM dinnertime as they often stay at the hospital until late evening, but the leftovers are very much appreciated by tired parents!
- Your group is responsible for clean-up as well.
Volunteer hour options:
- Monday thru Friday and Sunday: 7 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM
