All families must be referred to the Ronald McDonald House by the Social Work Department from a San Francisco hospital.
To qualify, the patient must be:
- 18 years or younger from the time of referral
- Receiving treatment in a San Francisco hospital
- Living at least 50 miles from San Francisco
Because of the large number of referrals, the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco prioritizes based on level of care, length of stay and distance from San Francisco.
Located next to UCSF-Mount Zion Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco offers an attractive and comfortable temporary lodging place.
Most guest rooms have a private bathroom. A few rooms share a bathroom. There is a large common kitchen, dining room, common areas on the 2nd and 3rd Floors, laundry room and play room. We have computer stations, so families can stay in touch with relatives and friends.
Each family is asked to contribute $10.00 per night. These fees can be waived under certain circumstances. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.
Please note that we do not have an elevator. We do have one room on the First Floor that is wheelchair accessible.
A small staff is responsible for day-to-day operation of the House. The Resident Manager lives in an apartment on the third floor and is on call at night and some weekends. We also have two Relief Workers, who work evening shifts and on weekends.
Monday through Friday: 2pm - 8pm
Saturday: 11am - 12pm
Sunday: 6-8pm
REGISTRATION BY APPOINTEMNT ONLY
Your registration time must be confirmed with the Ronald McDonald House. Failure to arrive or inform staff that you will be late will result in another family being placed in the House.
UCSF runs a shuttle system Monday-Friday (except on holidays) that will take families to the UCSF-Parnassus campus where the Children's Hospital is located.
CPMC is a short bus ride away on the #2 or #4 bus line.
Children under 18 may not be left unattended in the House. No babysitting services are provided in the House. Parents are responsible for cleaning up after their children in the playroom and common areas.
